Property Management Jobs Guide

Its a new year, and many people are looking to switch professions.  The great news is that things are on the up and up, which means that companies are finally starting to hire again.  Since the mortgage markets are still relatively tight, finding a new property management job should still be pretty easy.  Since there are so many people renting at the moment, one should be able to find it quite easy to at least get an interview for a management position for a property management firm.

For those that are looking for a job in this fast growing career, here are a few tips to help you get hired once you land that initial interview.

1. The first thing to understand is that this job is in high demand, meaning that property firms need to hire for a lot of positions.  Instead of going to your interview to get the job as a “property manager”, make sure you go there to get the job as a “problem solver”.  No matter what position you apply for at any company, what people are really hiring for is a problem solver.  With this being said, make sure to go over the skills that make you the perfect person to hire because you can solve problems, and heaven knows that tenants have all kinds of problems.
2. The next thing is to be professional.  Don’t use too much humor in  you interview as property managers want a friendly person, but they also want someone who will get the job done and increase their profits.  Be cordial in the interview, but make sure you show the person that you know how to make decisions and can carry them through to the end result.
3. If you have had any experience leading others, or managing processes or teams of people.  Make sure to make that a main focus of your interview.
4. The last thing to do is to follow up with the interviewer.  This process cannot be stressed enough as these companies want to hire a person that will follow up with tenants and get the payments that tenants get late on.  Following up with the interviewer is a huge thing to do, so don’t forget it!
